Distance training is an effective way for people to gain knowledge and skills through web-based media. We hope that this learning experience will motivate you to want to continue to learn about WorkWORLD software and to become comfortable with using it for decision-support and as an information resource. Future distance learning modules will focus on how to operate the software and explore text results using the Help/Information System so that alternative decision paths can be considered. We hope to move from the current static web pages and audio text to a variety of delivery mechanisms, including streaming video/audio.
You may wish to continue using web-based training modules as we create them, or you may feel it would be beneficial to participate in the group training seminars that ESI offers at VCU, and at sites around the country, to learn more about how the software operates. For more information, contact us at: WorkWORLD@vcu.edu or call us at our Help Desk telephone number (804) 828-2665.
ESI plans to develop the modules for the distance training program in stages. This first module explains how WorkWORLD software can be used as a decision support tool, a case management tool, and an educational resource regarding Social Security and other disability and poverty program rules and benefits calculations. The emphasis of this initial learning module is on theory and general practice, designed to educate learners on the motivation behind the development of WorkWORLD and how WorkWORLD can benefit a variety of different learners.
The program does not attempt to offer a comprehensive overview of Federal programs and rules, and the variety of other State and local programs. These programs are broad in scope and complexity, and we recommend that individuals and their counselors use WorkWORLD's Help/Information System to learn what needs to be known about the programs, rules, and supports as they apply to their specific situations.
For an overview of SSA work incentive programs and rules, we recommend that you visit "Social Security Online" at http://www.ssa.gov/. The Office of Employment Support Programs website at http://www.ssa.gov/work/ promotes the employment of Social Security beneficiaries with disabilities and provides regular updates on the site about policies, rules, research and program innovations.
